Above the Store began with a very literal idea.

The name comes from growing up above a family-owned preschool in Northport, New York. Home was upstairs. The business was downstairs.

There wasn't much distance between the two.

Running a small business meant that customers, employees, schedules, problems and tomorrow's work didn't necessarily stay downstairs when the workday ended. The business was part of the family's life.

Years later, that experience became the idea behind Above the Store.

You don't have to literally live above your business to live above the store.

Maybe it's the customer you remember you need to call while you're eating dinner. The employee question you're thinking about on Sunday morning. The follow-up that was supposed to happen yesterday. Or the dozen small things you're carrying around in your head because, ultimately, you're the person responsible for making sure they get done.

That's the owner Above the Store was created for.

Some businesses never stay at the business.

OUR STORY

Practical systems for businesses run by real people.

Above the Store helps local business owners put practical systems around important parts of the business that can otherwise depend on someone remembering to do them.

We're starting with what happens after the job is finished.

The Above the Store Customer Experience System helps businesses follow up with customers consistently, surface service issues that need attention, and give eligible customers a straightforward opportunity to share their experience publicly.

It's a relatively small part of running a business.

But that's the point.

Small-business owners already have enough big things to worry about. The important little things shouldn't always have to live in their heads, too.

That's what it means to live Above the Store. And that's who we're building for.

Let’s talk about what’s getting carried upstairs.

If customer follow-up is one of those things your business knows it should do consistently, but doesn't always have the time or system to manage, we'd like to hear how you're handling it today.
